Solar energy consists of calorific, lighted, radio or any other kind of radiations sent out by sun. It is practically inexhaustible and it represents the cleanest type of energy on earth; the huge quantities of this energy are at the basis of almost all natural processes on earth. The heat obtained with solar installations can be used for providing the living places and offices thermal energy, for preparing the hot domestic water, for warming up the pools and for air conditioned systems. The flat solar collector panel -
it is, in principle, a box covered with glass, which it’s installed on the roof just like a skylight. In the box there are copper pipes which have copper wings attached. These constitute the active part of the collector and are painted in black with a selective paint (which has the property of gathering the heat of the solar rays in proportion of over 90%).
The copper pipes transfer their heat to the water or to the mixture between water and antigel which run through them towards the tank with hot water, which can be placed above the collector, or in a place under this one (garret or bathroom, for example).
Vacuum Pipes -
A copper pipe with afferent wings is placed longitudinally in a vacuum pipe made of special glass. This way, the capacity of heat absorbtion raises substantially, the air acting as a thermal insulating.
The glass pipe is covered at the part situated under the pipe with wings with a fragile silver stratum, which plays the role of a mirror, having the purpose of concentrating the reflected rays towards the copper pipe, increasing this way the efficaciousness of the system.
Even in the cloudy days, when solar radiation is influenced by diffraction and reflection because of the increasing number of molecules contained by the water, the vacuum pipe is efficient, the water reaching temperatures situated around 40°C. Solar panels are comercialized in Romania in a variety of forms and dimensions.
They can vary as size between 0,20 m2 and 1,2 m2, as weight between 2 and 14 kg and as maximum generated power between 20 and 150W. Using at maximum level the solar energy is a necessary step in order to ensure an energy back-up and in order to protect the earth and the health of the future generations.
Photovoltaic panels -
convert solar energy in electricity. The principle on which they work is based on semiconductors’ capacity of producing electric tension when they are applied a source of light.
Advantages:
- they don’t have parts in motion (the conventional electric generators are rotating engines which get old and produce noise because of the frictions);
- they have a long standing life (over 20 years) and they don’t need any maintenance (at the most they must be cleaned of dust);
- they ensure energetic independence to individual consumers and they can be successfully used in isolated areas, which don’t have electrical networks (they are successfully used for more than 30 years as energy sources for satellites and interplanetary stations).
